Total care bill reached over €5,600 per person in 2015

Healthcare costs in the Netherlands reached a dazzling €5,628 per person last year, according to new figures from the national statistics office CBS. The total healthcare bill reached €95bn in 2015, a rise of 0.8% on 2014. Spending on care has now risen below the increase in economic growth for three years in a row. The rise was kept low by cuts in spending on care of the elderly, youth social work and local welfare projects, the CBS said. Some 25% of total spending went to hospitals and specialist care, a rise of 1.5% on 2014. Spending on medicines rose 3% to €5.4bn. The bill for asylum seeker care doubled to €900m, due to the sharp rise in numbers. Spending on care services accounted for 14% of GDP. 11 Share 1 Share Share Tweet Share
